A few years ago, the artist received a classic cookie jar as a gift and was instantly smitten. One jar quickly grew into a collection of 100 until she joined a ceramics studio and decided to create her own. She wanted to keep the playful, curious style that she loved about the cookie jars from the 20's-50's, while adding a fresh approach with a monochromatic color palette and sweet but quirky characters.

Now, she has built "an empire of historically, culturally, and imagination-inspired handcrafted cookie jars" (Andrew Joseph, Aspire Design & Home) for beautiful and interesting homes, shops, boutiques and interior design showrooms all over the country, including Bloomingdale's.

Hazy will talk to us more about the fun and original characters she dreams up, like Cactus Girl and Busy Bee, where she finds inspiration and how she was able to turn a collecting passion into a full-fledged art business. She will share some of her latest projects and designs and walk us through the process of creating one her unique and joyful treasures.

As with all of our virtual connection sessions, the event is gender inclusive and there will also be time to connect with the community and get to know the fellow attendees.

This session is being offered with a $5 minimum suggested donation and limited comp tickets available to those who have been financially impacted by COVID-19. All registrants will receive the zoom call-in info on their receipt and a recording will be made available afterwards.

More about Hazy Mae:

"Hazy Mae didn’t steal the cookie from the cookie jar. Rather, she reinvented it. A few years ago, inspired by a cookie jar she received as a gift, the artist-slash-business woman joined a ceramics studio and began an empire of historically, culturally, and imagination-inspired handcrafted cookie jars.

From fashion icons, Iris Apfel to Grace Jones, and fun original characters like Cactus Girl and Busy Bee, her array of options has something to offer everyone. While the jars themselves act as centerpieces and decor (along with snickerdoodle storage) to owners, Mae also projects her creativity onto canvases, drawings, and animated films of her characters.

For those who prefer flowers to flour, Hazy sells a line of vases, complete with the same charm and personality as her jars. It takes more than an idea and artistry to become a successful New York businesswoman, however.

Mae has built her brand through marketing at major trade shows, and collaborations with designers, interior decorators, and boutiques who increase exposure and excitement about her functional art. The cookie has certainly crumbled in Hazy Mae’s favor, and deservingly so."
