In honor of Women's History Month, and in advance of International Women's Day (on 3/8), you are invited to join us for a more fair and equal exploration of art history — one that includes the many overlooked women of the art world, led by Art Historian and Founder of Less Than Half, Hall W. Rockefeller.

When you think of the great artists and great art movements in history, what names come to mind? Da Vinci, Vermeer, Manet, Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Pollock... all MEN! But the truth is that there have been just as many talented female artists working alongside these men at every point throughout art history.

In fact, according to Hall Rockefeller, "we can tell the same history of art that we know, even when we swap out some of the men for women... none of the nuance, themes, or developments will be lost if we include women in the story." And this is exactly what she will be doing in this fun and fascinating lecture all about the history of art, now with women included!

This is a great event for anyone who:
- would like to have a more fair & gender inclusive understanding of art history
- has ever wondered 'why there have been no great women artists' (which is simply not true)
- is interested in learning about some of these many great women artists

The lecture will be 45 minutes, with 15 minutes of Q&A and a 20 minute, interactive post-lecture discussion and quiz designed to test your knowledge and help you get to know one another better at the end.

$10 early-bird through Feb 20th; $15 thereafter

More about Hall W. Rockefeller:

Hall holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in the history of art and has given lectures at the National Arts Club (NY) and Black Mountain College (NC) and has been published in art publications such as Hyperallergic and Sculpture Magazine, among others. She founded Less than Half in response to the fact that, between 2008 and 2018 only 14% of solo museum shows in the U.S. featured a female artist, even though women make up 51% of the population.

More about Less Than Half:

Less Than Half is a website dedicated to the unsung heroines of the art world, the women who worked alone, the women who worked in the shadows of their husbands, and the women who were deemed ‘minor’ in movements of majors. "An art world that doesn’t acknowledge the works of female artists and artists of color is not only an inequitable one, but one that ultimately harms art’s higher purpose: to expand our understanding of the world through seeing."
