Giving Thanks for Dance | A Movement Workshop + Friendsgiving Dinner

  • Refinery Hotel 63 West 38th Street New York, NY, 10018 United States (map)

With Thanksgiving approaching, join the Women of Culture community to give thanks for the joy of movement in this fun and judgment-free workshop all about letting the music move you!

Led by avid mover and dance-lover, Alexandra Harper, this 75-minute movement experience and dance party is all about celebrating the ability to move and using dance as a way to cultivate peace and gratitude in advance of the hectic and sometimes stressful holiday season. It's an opportunity to fall (back) in love with the simple pleasure of letting movement pass through you, without expectation or judgment.

It's all about transforming and releasing any stress, tension, or negative feelings and giving yourself permission to move. It is an invitation to listen to the music and to your body, letting them (rather than your mind) lead the way — in celebration of simple pleasures in life!

This will be a great opportunity to (re)discover the pure & simple joy of movement while (re)connecting to yourself and the community in a safe and welcoming environment.

The workshop is geared toward female-identifying movers, but all genders and first-timers are welcome. No dance training is necessary and no judgment is allowed!

Plus, the option to join us afterward for our Friendsgiving dinner at the beautiful Parlour Room afterward!

About your Facilitator:

Alexandra Harper is a creative entrepreneur and community builder who founded Women of Culture as a way to connect, empower and inspire women through meaningful engagement with the arts. She has created over 300 art-based events for a community of 4,500+ women and seeks to help create a more open, empathic, and equal society through her work.

With over 20 years of training in everything from ballet to modern and tap to hip hop, she took a step back from her practice after deciding not to pursue a professional career in dance. Yet the deep desire to move never left her, and after years of denying it, she reconnected to her inner groove by finally giving herself permission to move, without needing "movement" to look a certain way.

As a natural teacher and facilitator, she created the Sisterhood of Discovery online women's circle to help others reconnect with their deepest desires and innate creativity and is passionate about continuing this mission in the form of movement and dance. She believes that dance is one of life’s greatest joys and that it enables us to heal, release and move through whatever situations arise.
