Dancing for Freedom: An Intuitive Movement Celebration of Inter-dependence

  • Gibney 280 Broadway 53A Chambers Street Studio X New York, NY 10007 NY NY (map)

In celebration of the joy & freedom of summer, it's time to let the rhythm move you in this upbeat and energizing movement workshop designed to help you re-connect to the dancer within and that which connects us all.

Led by Women of Culture Founder, Alexandra Harper, this 60-minute intuitive movement workshop and dance party is all about using dance as a way to tap into a sense of play and cultivate joy and inter-connectedness.

It's all about letting go of any pre-conceived ideas about what dance should be or look like and finding the movement that feels right for you and your body, giving yourself permission to move, without expectation or judgment. It is an invitation to listen to the music and to your body, letting them (rather than your mind) lead the way — in celebration of summer, freedom, and life in general!

The workshop is geared toward woman-identifying movers, but all genders and first-timers are welcome. No dance training is necessary and no judgment is allowed!

Art-full members may also join us afterward for our July Culture & Cocktails in the sky at the Hide Rooftop at 8:30pm!

About your Facilitator:

Alexandra Harper is a creative entrepreneur and community builder who founded Women of Culture as a way to connect, empower and inspire women through meaningful engagement with the arts. She has created over 300 art-based events for a community of 4,500+ women and seeks to help create a more open, empathic, and equal society through her work.

With over 20 years of training in everything from ballet to modern and tap to hip hop, she took a step back from her practice after deciding not to pursue a professional career in dance. Yet the deep desire to move never left her, and after years of denying it, she reconnected to her inner groove by finally giving herself permission to move, without needing "movement" to look a certain way.

As a natural teacher and nurturer, she created the Sisterhood of Discovery online women's circle to help others reconnect with their deepest desires and innate creativity and is passionate about continuing this mission in the form of movement and dance. She believes that dance is one of life’s greatest joys and that it enables us to heal, release and move through whatever situations arise.
