Join Women of Culture and members of the Joyce Theater’s Young Leaders Circle (YLC) for an unforgettable experience celebrating the visionary artist and choreographer Alvin Ailey.
On Sunday, February 2nd, explore the Whitney Museum of American Art’s groundbreaking exhibition, Edges of Ailey, with an optional pre-event member’s brunch at Mary Lane.
About Edges of Ailey
This is the first large-scale museum exhibition to honor Ailey’s life, dances, and enduring legacy. Curated by Adrienne Edwards and described as an “extravaganza,” the dynamic showcase includes:
Visual art, live performance, music, archival materials, and a multi-screen video installation of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT) repertory.
Iconic artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, Kara Walker, and Rashid Johnson.
New works by Karon Davis, Jennifer Packer, Mickalene Thomas, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye.
We’ll enjoy a private guided tour with one of the Whitney’s expert Teaching Fellows and have time afterward to explore on your own or with new friends.
Optional Pre-Museum Brunch
Official Art-full members are invited to a pre-event members-only brunch at Mary Lane, a seasonal New American restaurant by Chef Mike Price and Blackfoot Hospitality, known for local favorites like Little Owl and The Clam.
