Poison & Power in Palermo: Giulia at PAC NYC

  • Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) Performing Arts Center, 251 Fulton St, New York, NY 10007, USA (map)

Join Women of Culture for an evening of theater, conversation, and connection as we experience Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo, a highly anticipated world premiere musical at the Perelman Performing Arts Center.

Inspired by the remarkable true story of Giulia Tofana, a 17th-century woman who secretly helped other women escape abusive and dangerous marriages, the musical explores the complicated intersection of survival, justice, power, and sacrifice. What begins as a single act of self-defense evolves into a hidden sisterhood, raising timeless questions about how far one should go to protect others—and what it costs to carry that responsibility.

Written by and starring Grammy Award-winning artist Jennifer Nettles and directed by Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman, Giulia combines a soaring contemporary score with a story that feels both historical and strikingly relevant. Rich with moral complexity, female resilience, and questions about agency and freedom, it promises to be one of the most talked-about new works of the season.

Before the performance, members and guests are invited to gather on the terrace at Metropolis, overlooking Lower Manhattan, for drinks, conversation, and the opportunity to connect with fellow culturally curious women before heading into the theater together.
