Wildcard: Private Gallery Night + Artist Talk with Josette Urso

Join us on Wednesday, July 17th for a private after-hours viewing and artist-led walkthrough of Josette Urso’s Wildcard show at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in Chelsea.
Josette Urso makes paintings, watercolors and drawings in an urgent attempt to capture the essence and energy of whatever surrounds her – be it a landscape, a subway, an apartment view, or a dinner table. Her approach involves moment-to-moment extrapolation governed by intuitive leaps of scale, color and wayward geometry She works from observation, intuitively, playfully, in a process that makes room for many visual surprises and an enormous range of inventive mark making.
She says, “In painting, I'm responding to shape and form and the light and the experience of space. I'm looking o in every direction simultaneously, so the pieces are getting a bit more abstract, but they're still all based on looking. I nd that my visual vocabulary is much broader if I respond to something as a jumping o point rather than relying on what's in my head.”
For one night only, the gallery will stay open late for the Women of Culture community, and Urso herself will lead attendees through the exhibit, telling the stories and inspiration behind her work.
Our private gallery nights are an opportunity to connect with the artist, gallerist and fellow members of the community in a warm, welcoming and inclusive setting. Event is gender inclusive and open to all with an interest in art, community and connection.
All tickets include the private gallery night with artist talk - wine & snacks to be served. (FREE for Art-full members).
Full experience tickets (Art-full members only) also include 1 alcoholic beverage OR dessert at Cookshop afterwards. All additional food or drink will need to be ordered and paid separately on-site.
