Imagining Black Diasporas: Private Tour at LACMA + Brunch | 4/26
- LACMA 5905 Wilshire Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90036 United States (map)
Join us on Saturday April 26th for an exclusive guided tour of Imagining Black Diasporas: 21st-Century Art and Poetics at LACMA in partnership with ArtMuse LA.
Art writer Jennifer Li will lead a conversational tour through this ground-breaking exhibition which brings together 60 artists from Africa, Europe, and the Americas, exploring nearly 25 years of Black artistic expression through painting, sculpture, photography, and time-based media.
A selection of paintings, sculpture, works on paper and time-based media offer a Pan-African consideration of Black artists’ aesthetic choices in art making over the past quarter century.
Organized into four themes—speech and silence, movement and transformation, imagination, and representation—the exhibition expands the Pan-African canon beyond the Black Atlantic to include artists working along the Pacific Rim. The accompanying catalogue features contemporary poets whose original works continue the historical tradition of poetry in Pan-African discourse.
After the tour, we’ll gather for a delicious brunch at Fanny’s to discuss the exhibit, share insights, and enjoy a vibrant culinary experience.
All tickets include admission + the private, guided tour. Full experience tickets also include 1 brunch entree + 1 non-alcoholic beverage + tax/tip at brunch. All additional food or drink must be paid separately on-site.
