A Parisian Afternoon: Sargent and Paris at the MET + French brunch (Art-full members only)
- The Met 1000 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10028 United States (map)
Art-full members, join us on Saturday, May 17th for a culture-filled afternoon of French elegance, fine art, and inspiring conversation. 🎨🥂
We’ll begin with a delightful brunch at Jacques Brasserie, a cozy French bistro tucked into the heart of the Upper East Side, beloved for its authentic cuisine and welcoming ambiance. It’s the perfect way to ease into the afternoon with good food and great company.
Then, we’ll step into the golden age of French art with a private, guided tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s acclaimed “Sargent and Paris” exhibit. This stunning showcase explores the early career of John Singer Sargent, tracing his journey from a gifted 18-year-old art student in Paris to a rising star of the international art world.
Spanning the 1870s to mid-1880s, the exhibition brings together Sargent’s ground-breaking portraits, travels, and creative influences—culminating in the iconic Madame X, a daring work that caused a stir at the Paris Salon. Alongside this masterpiece, you’ll encounter rarely seen sketches, figure studies, and portraits of Parisiennes, all illuminating how Sargent’s bold vision helped shape the modern portrait.
Whether you’re an art lover, Francophile, or just looking for meaningful connection, this afternoon is one you won’t want to miss.
