More about Arch|Ballet:
New York City’s Arch Ballet (A|B) is the brainchild of Artistic Director and Choreographer Sheena Annalise. Founded in 2013, at a time when less than a quarter of U.S. ballet companies were led by women, A|B emerged with a singular mission: to ensure the continuous evolution of ballet, designed for an inclusive and varied 21st century audience.
Innovative concepts, a groundbreaking mix of original music (from electronic dance to neoclassical), and diverse, world-class dancers represent the culture of tomorrow. Technology, visual art, fashion, science, and current cultural ideas imbue each of A|B’s creations to fortify the future of dance by fostering collaboration, curiosity, and creativity at every level. Ballet: reimagined, reinvented, and redefined.
As a vibrant, emerging organization, Arch Ballet has regularly showcased its brand of bold new dances at an array of New York City venues, including The Sheen Center, The Davenport Theatre, Jazz at Lincoln Center, as well as nationally, at Tempe Center for the Arts Arizona, Paramount Theatre of Boston, and Marlene Boll Theatre Detroit. They have graced the cover of Dance Informa Magazine (July 2016) and stolen the hearts of industry critics, who are hailing them as “brilliant” (The Dance Enthusiast) and “the answer to this art form surviving a hundred years more” (Dance Informa).
A|B celebrates modernism from studio to stage as the artistic process often includes ballets being created in silence and composers creating music exclusively tailored to the movement. Its dancers are classically trained and fine tuned in the company’s specific pedagogy, Arch Ballet Technique, which emphasizes serpentine and geometric body lines.
