Presented in honor of the Shape of Dreams exhibit, this special program brings Carrington’s mythic world to life with a guided exhibition walk-through, live performance and Carrington-inspired refreshments.
Step into the dreamlike world of Leonora Carrington for an intimate evening of art, performance, and connection presented by L’SPACE Gallery and Women of Culture in celebration of The Shape of Dreams.
One of the most visionary artists of the 20th century, Carrington created a universe where myth, memory, transformation, and the feminine subconscious came vividly to life. Her work invites us beyond the boundaries of the ordinary — into a realm of symbolism, imagination, and inner power.
Inspired by this spirit, the evening will bring Carrington’s world to life through a guided exhibition walk-through, a live performance, and thoughtfully curated refreshments inspired by the artist’s surreal and mythic sensibility. Guests will be invited to experience the exhibition not only as viewers, but as participants in a shared atmosphere of wonder, curiosity, and creative exchange.
Rooted in the spirit of women inspiring and uplifting other women, the program will feature a special performance by Melissa Almaguer, a multidisciplinary artist from Mexico whose primary instrument is tap dance. Through improvisation, rhythm, sound, and movement, Almaguer’s work explores interaction and transformation — creating a contemporary echo of Carrington’s fearless imagination and boundary-crossing artistic language.
Together, we will celebrate Carrington’s enduring legacy alongside contemporary artists and performers whose practices carry forward her sense of mystery, courage, and possibility.
