Join arts-based social networking community, Women of Culture, for an intimate discussion, virtual viewing party and talkback with Diana Varco, whose work as an actress and solo artist centers around using the power of humor to heal. Advance registration required here.
We all have baggage to carry and wounds to heal, especially at this moment in time, but Varco has found a way to turn these 'disadvantages' into art, primarily through her solo show, Shattered, which recently had a 25 show run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Together, we will have the chance to view some recorded scenes from the show and learn, in Diana's own words, how she went about writing and performing the show, in which she plays over 35 characters that she created herself. She will share more about how she creates characters to cope and why she believes sharing our own stories is important.
This session will be a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in making autobiographical art of any kind (including acting, dancing, writing, et) to learn more about the process, but it will also be beneficial for those who are simply curious to get a peek into the world of acting, humor and storytelling.
**Please note there will be some sensitive and perhaps triggering subjects discussed during this event pertaining to sexual assault. Please reach out if you have any concerns or need to cancel.

As with all of our virtual connection sessions, there will be time to connect with the community and get to know the fellow attendees.
This session is being offered on a sliding scale with a $5 minimum suggested donation and a portion of all proceed going to Safe Horizons, the largest victim services nonprofit organization in the US, which provides social services for victims of abuse and violent crime.
All registrants will receive the zoom call-in info on their receipt and a recording will be made available to all registrants afterwards. No acting ability or experience needed as we will be discussing and watching clips only.

About Diana Varco:
Diana Varco is an UCB/Groundlings trained expert improvisor, story-teller and actress using humor to heal. In her solo show Shattered, Diana applies comedy and character-work to explore mental health, impact of sexual/domestic violence, power of Shame, post-traumatic growth, and much more! Since its premiere in 2017, Shattered has graced many stages - including Whitefire Theatre SoloFest, The Hollywood Fringe Festival, Outdoor Voices Festival, United Solo (off-Broadway), LA Women’s Theatre Festival, BFF Binge Fringe of Free Theatre at Santa Monica Playhouse and - a recent 25 show run - at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
About Shattered:
All her life Diana hasn’t hit it off with the fellas. In 3rd grade, she kicked her crush in the crotch and her dating life didn’t improve from there.
What starts as a quick look into why Diana doesn’t date much or like sex, ends up a hilarious and heartbreaking journey through consent, intimacy, and relationships. Personifying over 35 characters, Diana delivers a fast-paced, powerhouse performance filled with wit, poignancy and vulnerability, as she explores themes of the psychological fall out of sexual assault, authority figure failures, family abuse cycles, love, dating mishaps, and many more.
In Shattered, Diana uses comedy to take us through tragedy, as she tells the tale of one individual picking up the broken pieces of herself and putting them back together again.
