May Day Celebration of Movement for Non-Dancers

virtual connection session-mayday.png

Join us for a Mayday-themed dance and movement session that will be an energy and mood booster for dancers and non-dancers alike.

May 1st is a traditional spring holiday in many European cultures which involves dances, singing, and cake to welcome and celebrate spring. Strangely enough, "Mayday" is also an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal.

During the current health crisis and as widespread stay-at-home orders continue, it feels important both to celebrate every possible moment and to express our distress and need for help, as individuals and as a society.

We will explore all of these conflicting emotions during this celebration of dance, using movement to express and release our sadness and frustration, also using it as a means of expressing hope and joy.

This session is especially suitable for non-dancers and those who think they 'can't dance' as a way to wake up your body to the joy of movement. You will be guided through a warm-up and different techniques to connect with your body and your natural ability to dance (yes, we all CAN dance!), but this will be more about releasing emotion and finding ways of moving that feel right for you than about learning steps or choreography.

We will gather via zoom so that we can all connect and meet one another at the beginning of the call, establishing a safe, judgement-free space where we feel comfortable freely moving and being ourselves. This will be a great opportunity to release any stress or frustration you have been feeling while also welcoming the joy that comes from dancing like no one is watching (because no one will be watching!).

This session is being held in service of the community, in order to add some joy and connection during this dark time. It is donation-based but pre-registration here is required. All registrants will receive a zoom link as well as a recording after the session ends.
