Day of the Dead Celebration with the Meadow | 11/1
Day of the Dead Celebration with the Meadow | 11/1
Inspired by the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, you are invited to join us in collaboration with the Meadow DUMBO for a celebration of the past and present, and the intertwined nature of life and death on Saturday November 1st.
El Día de los Muertos is a joyful and festive holiday where families honor and welcome back the spirits of their beloved. The day focuses on honouring and welcoming back the spirits of those who have transitioned at a time of year when we mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter.
We will begin the afternoon with a guided meditation and sharing circle designed to help you reconnect with the memory, guidance, and support of your beloveds at this powerful time of year when the veil between the living is believed to be whispery thin, allowing for communication and engagement.
We invite you to bring a photo of a cherished loved one who has passed — a family member, friend, mentor, or ancestor — to place on our community altar (ofrenda) among marigolds, candles, and other offerings.
You will also be guided through an expressive portrait painting workshop in which you will learn how to paint a portrait of a loved one (living or deceased), without the pressure of perfection.
This event is an opportunity to learn about and be immersed in the vibrant culture and traditions of Mexico while also honouring and celebrating those we have loved and lost.
Experience the beauty of this tradition with:
A guided meditation to connect you more deeply with yourself
A sharing circle to connect you more deeply with the other women in attendance
An expressive portrait-painting activity to honor and celebrate your loved ones
Festive decor and Mexican snacks to set the mood
