Spend an afternoon learning about and celebrating female artists past and present while exploring one of NYC's hidden art gems: the Louise Nevelson Chapel at Saint Peter's Church.

The chapel serves as the inspiration for and backdrop to Meditative Motions, an exhibit by Contemporary Artist Chellis Baird, whose work blurs the intersection of painting, sculpture and textiles. The exhibit features a series of sculptural paintings, through which Baird pays respect to this beautiful structure that is the only remaining intact environment created by Nevelson, one of the 20th century's premier abstract expressionist sculptors.

Much like the sculptural environments created by Nevelson, Baird transforms materials to celebrate the transition from the mundane to the sacred, using shadow and light to create her own visual language of texture. The repetitive patterns in her work simultaneously ground and invite the viewer into physical spaces.

After an exclusive walk-through of the exhibition with the artist, the afternoon includes an artist talk with Baird in conversation with Heather Zises, curator and editor of the multi-award winning book 50 Contemporary Women Artists. It will be a unique opportunity to learn about the artistic dialogue between two women exploring similar themes but working in different centuries.

Light bites & wine courtesy of LOVE Wines will be served. All genders welcome.

$10 tickets through 12/28/19; $15 thereafter
